Tell us a bit about yourself and your role at Latrobe Lifeskills and how long you’ve been here.
Hello! My name is Janie, and I have been working at Lifeskills for just under three years. Prior to this role, I was a Teacher’s Aide working in a special needs high school and primary school. My role at Lifeskills involves many things, but most importantly providing a safe and supportive environment for participants to excel in achieving their goals whilst having fun.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Any hobbies?
In my spare time, I enjoy being with my family, playing video games, trying new restaurants, attending community events, and playing badminton.
What do you think makes Lifeskills unique in the way it supports participants?
Participants enjoy having a place to socialise with their friends and be part of a community. Participants are free to choose activities that match their interests and are also encouraged to explore new experiences they may not have had the chance to try before. At Lifeskills, we also have an amazing team of staff who are passionate about what they do and go above and beyond to ensure participants are made to feel welcome and included in all activities.
Can you share a memorable moment or success story from your time here?
It’s hard to pick a specific moment, but it’s always special to see the genuine joy and excitement participants have when doing something they love, learning something new, and being social with their friends.
