We’re so proud to announce that Gavin Porter, Lifeskills participant, is set to launch his first solo art exhibition at Arts Project Australia on the 7th of May.
7 May 2016 – 11 June 2016
Venue: Arts Project Australia
Opening: 7 May 2016, from 3-5pm
Gavin Porter’s first solo exhibition Paragon of Virtue presents new work that explores apocalyptic themes. Conceived by Porter, this exhibition features a lead heroine ‘Paragon’, who is motivated by a strong sense of justice. In the exhibition, Porter introduces complex graphic novel type narratives, such as the timeless thematic struggle between good and evil. Porter’s drawings are frequented by mission driven characters engaged in the pursuit of survival in a futuristic world.
Exhibition to be opened by Georgie Meagher, Artistic Director & CEO, Next Wave
Gavin Porter’s quirky narratives in which recurring characters engage in the eternal struggle between good and evil, and post-apocalyptic survival often accompany his complex graphic novel-like drawings. Porter’s works present a mixture of colourful drawings in fine liner and marker on paper, as well as black and white ink drawings, starkly rendered to depict a futuristic world inhabited by mission-driven characters.
Born in 1988, Gavin Porter has been attending the Arts Project Australia studio since 2007 and has exhibited in numerous group shows including ‘Home’, locations around Arts Centre Melbourne, the city and surrounds; Melbourne Art Fair, Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne; and ‘Connected’, Federation Square, Melbourne. He has also exhibited at each Annual Gala at Arts Project Australia since 2007.
