In November 2018 the team from Bendigo planted our first vegie crop! We’re using existing raised garden beds at La Trobe University and planted a variety of plants, with our taste buds and Wednesday cooking sessions in mind. This means easy to use, versatile and healthy vegies and herbs like tomatoes, lettuce, beetroot, zucchini, carrots, chives and basil were the first to go in.
We’re very lucky to have a watering system in place that has been taking care of the produce during the hot weather and as a result, everything has thrived.
We’ve pulled out all the stops, even singing to our plants to help them grow. We’re not sure whether it’s the singing, the right soil, mother nature or lots of water, everything seems to working a treat. We’ve harvested some zucchinis and the tomatoes will be ripe and ready next week, and there’s hundreds!
We’re planning to make a zucchini slice and fresh garden salad, our tomatoes will be the stars.
